Description
First World War recruitment poster for the U.S Air Service of the American Expeditionary Force. It features a central image of a standard J-1 (made by the Standard Aircraft Corporation from 1916) flying towards the sea. The pilot is clearly visible in an open air cockpit. On each wing is the official insignia of the Air Services. The insignia is a five pointed white star with a red centre set against a blue roundel. In the foreground are two observers using binoculars to check the skies. The patriotic red, white and blue landscape echoes the colours of the official Air Services insignia.
