Informal portrait of 1783 Sergeant (Sgt) David Walter Stewart, 44th Battalion, of Perth, WA. A teacher at Perth Modern School prior to his enlistment on 25 January 1916, he embarked from Fremantle aboard HMAT Miltiades on 9 August 1916. He was killed in action, aged twenty two, on 8 June 1917, at Messines, France.
