The camp library is yours: read to win the war...
First World War poster commissioned by the American Library Association (ALA). It features a depiction of a soldier in full uniform, with his backpack still on, sitting on grass reading a book. The image takes up the whole with the title text positioned in two square boxes in the upper left corner and lower centre right. During the war the ALA provided free camp libraries and books to serving soldiers and sailors. Forty camp libraries were built by the ALA throughout the United States largely from donations of monies and books from the general public and philanthropists. One of seven posters commissioned by the ALA this poster by Charles Buckles Falls is aimed at soldiers and promotes the free Camp libraries and the importance of reading to good morale.
