Description
406387 Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) Eric George Bamkin (left) with his three unidentified crew members and their Martin Baltimore bomber, prior to take off on an anti shipping sweep over the Western Mediterranean. Note the parachute, flying helmet and Mae West life jacket in the foreground. Flt Lt Bamkin enlisted with the RAAF in Perth, WA, on 9 December 1940 and flew with No 454 Sqn, RAAF, in the Middle East. He was killed whilst flying operationally over Tobruk on 8 June 1943 aged 22. He is buried at the Tobruk War Cemetery.
The three crew members beside Bamkin may possibly be Pilot Officer Colin Randle; Pilot Officer Harry Broomhall, Flight Sergeant John Brocksopp.
