Description
Studio portrait of two privates. Identified, left to right: 944 Private (Pte) Albert Stiles, of Williamstown, Vic, and 891 Pte Thomas Walker Jones, of Flemington, Vic. Both men are members of D Company, 31st Battalion, which embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Wandilla on 9 November 1915. Pte Stiles enlisted on 12 July 1915. He was killed in action on 21 July 1916 in France and is memorialised at the Rue-Petillion Military Cemetery. Pte Jones was killed in action on 20 July 1916 at Fleurbaix, France. See also DA11460.
