Cap : USS Milius
Navy blue wool and polyester baseball-style cap machine embroidered in golden cotton with the words 'USS MILIUS DDG 69', and a multicoloured image of the ship's crest. The crest features a red rampant lion above crossed cutlasses and a shield containing a two-headed battle axe. A banner beneath the shield contains the ship's motto 'ALII PRAE ME' ('Others Before Myself'). The plastic strap for adjustment at the rear of the cap has been wrapped in black duct tape.
Cap worn by crewmembers of the Guided Missile Destroyer USS 'Milius' (DDG 69). The 'Milius', nineteenth ship built in the 'Arleigh Burke' class, was commissioned in November 1996. She has made two tours of the Persian Gulf as part of the Maritime Interception Operations (MIO) force in the Gulf, enforcing United Nations sanctions against Iraq. When the war with Iraq commenced, the ship was used to deliver Tomahawk missile strikes against a variety of land targets. The 'Milius' is named after Captain Paul L Milius USN, a pilot who was killed in action over Laos in 1967.
