Pictures of war and peace... : exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts
First World War poster issued by the Royal British Colonial Society of Artists to promote the exhibition 'Pictures of War & Peace' at the Royal Academy of Arts, London between 26 November and 31 December 1918. The poster states that uniformed members of the Armed forces would be admitted free of charge. The exhibition included work by all the Australian official war artists as well as works by George Coates, Tom Roberts, Thea Proctor and Bertram Mackennal who were living in London at the time.
Printed in black ink on a white background it features a central image of two Australian Soldiers. One with their back to the viewer is riding a camel in the desert signified by palm trees and cactus on the left. The other on the right side facing the viewer is riding a horse at the front signified by barbed wire and rubble visible in the lower right. The title and text printed in black ink framed the image in the upper right and across the bottom.
