Specimen clasp 'KOREA' for the Australian Service Medal 1945 - 1975.

History / Summary

The Australian Service Medal (1945 - 1975) was established in 1995 to recognise service by Australian forces in peacekeeping and/or non-warlike operations not already being recognised by the award of an individual campaign medal. Operations considered for inclusion must have taken place between 3 September 1945 and 16 September 1975. The ASM cannot be issued without a clasp. The clasp 'Korea' was approved for personnel serving between 9 June 1950 and 23 June 1950 with the United Nations Commission in Korea, or for service in Korea or adjacent areas between 28 July 1953 and 26 August 1957. 3905 clasps were issued. Service on UNCMAC (United Nations Command Military Armistice Commission) activities within the Demilitarised Zone between 27 August 1957 and 13 February 1975 was approved in 1999 as also qualifying for the clasp, and a further 14 were issued.
