RAAF handkerchief : Sergeant J D Dally, 36 Squadron RAAF
Description
Grey cotton man's handkerchief embroidered in one corner with RAAF pilot's wings, in white, black and pale blue. A small rectangular silver and blue paper manufacturer's sticker is attached to the handkerchief near the embroidery. It bears the word 'NILE' and shows a dhow sailing on the River Nile at night.
History / Summary
Associated with the service of 413356 Sergeant John Douglas Dally, who served as a pilot with 36 Squadron RAAF. Born in January 1929, Dally enlisted for service in August 1941. He was accidentally killed on 14 September 1942 when his DC-2 aircraft crashed while attempting to land at Seven Mile Strip, near Port Moresby.
