Studio portrait of 4252 Private (Pte) George Robert McLachlan, 45th Battalion. Pte McLachlan was born at Cambrio Flat near Fashion's Mount, NSW, the son of James and Mary Hannah McLachlan. He went to school at Fashion's Mount and then was engaged in farming prior to his enlistment on 12 August 1915. Pte McLachlan went overseas with the 45th Battalion and whilst serving with the unit in France received promotion to the rank of Lance Corporal before being killed in action on 5 August 1916 in the fighting at Pozieres. He was thirty one years of age at the time of his death and is buried at Villers-Bretonneux, France.
