Shoulder Belt badge: Victorian Local Forces
Description
White metal badge of the Victorian Local Forces for wear on a leather pouch or shoulder belt. The badge is formed by the ornate cypher monogram 'V F' encircled by a band which contains the words 'AUT PACE AUT BELLO VICTORIA'. Rays emerging from behind the band give the badge a diamond shape. On the reverse are four brazed-on threaded brass posts, three of which have brass washers and square nuts.
History / Summary
This style of badge was worn on the shoulder belt by members of the Victorian Forces from the mid 1870s. They may also have been worn as a pouch belt badge by senior NCOs.
