Description
Group portrait of 312 Driver (Dvr) Ernest Minnett Lucas (centre), 4th Divisional Ammunition Column (4 DAC), standing with two unidentified friends. Dvr Lucas was formerly a militia volunteer with the 11th Light Horse Regiment and when war broke out in 1914 he enlisted with B Squadron 1st Light Horse Regiment. He embarked from Sydney, NSW, aboard HMAT Star of Victoria on 20 October 1914, bound for Egypt. He served in Gallipoli in 1915 and on 23 May 1916 he was transferred to 4 DAC arriving in France on 13 June 1916. He was awarded the Military Medal on 27 October 1917 and Bar on 12 November 1917, which were both gazetted on 27 June 1918. Dvr Lucas returned to Australia on 8 October 1918.
