Trooper (Tpr) Jonathan (Jon) Church treating one of a large number of wounded Rwandan civilians, victims of the brutal massacre at the Kibeho refugee camp by soldiers of the Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA) where over 2,000 Rwandan civilians were killed. The refugee camp at Kibeho was administered by the UN and at one time held an estimated 120,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) fleeing the genocide of the civil war between Rwanda's two tribal groups, the Tutsi and Hutu. Tpr Church, an Australian Army Medical Officer, was a member of the second Australian Service Contingent (ASC2) serving in the second United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR II). Tpr Church was one of 18 soldiers killed in a training accident in Townsville on 12 June 1996, when two Blackhawk helicopters crashed.
