Studio portrait of 5613 Private (Pte) Leslie James Osmond, who was born at Goulburn, NSW, the son of James and Annie Osmond of Nyngan, NSW. After finishing his schooling at the Public School in Nyngan, Osmond worked as a farmer before enlisting at Nyngan on 16 February 1916. He then went overseas as a member of the 15th Reinforcements, 19th Battalion, embarking from Sydney aboard HMAT Euripides on 9 September 1916. After some months on the Western Front in France, Pte Osmond's unit was one of those involved in the Second Battle of Bullecourt and in the fierce fighting in this encounter, Osmond was killed in action on 3 May 1917. He was 23 years of age at the time of his death and is buried at Villers-Bretonneux, France.
