Group portrait of members of 5 Section, 2 Platoon, A Company, 1st Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR) in Somalia. 1 RAR was deployed as part of the Unified Task Force in Somalia (UNITAF) in 1993 to foster and protect humanitarian relief efforts, and restore law and order. The Battalion operated the Baidoa Humanitarian Relief Sector in south-western Somalia. Identified, left to right, back row: Private (Pte) Kirk Went, Pte Tim Martin, Pte Les Carlill. Front row: Pte Stan Lavin, Pte Tim Batge, Pte Paul Robins, Pte (later No.1 Rifleman) Steven T Donald, Pte Terrence Connor. (Pte Donald's diary relating to his service in Somalia is held at PR03036).
