Description
Studio portrait of 1523 Private (Pte) Charles Cahill Cockerill, 11th Reinforcements, 3rd Light Horse Regiment, of Patersonia, Tas. Pte Cockerill enlisted on 25 August 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Hawkes Bay on 28 October 1915. He was killed in action on 12 August 1916 at Albert, France, whilst serving with the 19th Battery, 22nd Field Artillery Brigade. His only brother, 3285 Pte Francis Douglas Cockerill, 5th Pioneer Battalion, was killed in action on 12 August 1916 at Pozieres, France.
