18 pounder Artillery Cartridge Case
18 pdr artillery straight tapered case made from brass. Stamped on the the base are the calibre, gun and mark of the empty case. The year of manufacture, maker's initials are present and the letters C and F indicating that the case was filled with cordite and has been filled with a full charge and been later refilled with a reduced charge. The case has been fired a number of times. Additional cyphers include the broad arrow acceptance marks. The artillery cartridge has been transformed into trench art by splaying the case mouth and attching the Royal Australian Artillery Corps Badge on one side. The words "UBIQUE, CONSENSU AUSTRALIA STABILLES"are etched onto the badge.
The cartridge case belonged to Lieutenant Colonel F E Forrest M C, who served in the Australian artillery in France and the Middle East during the First World War.
