Description
Studio portrait of 1067 Private (Pte) Santley Irving Redfern (Santley Redfern), A Company, 31st Battalion, of Brunswick, Vic. Pte Redfern enlisted on 20 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard either HMAT Bakara on 5 November 1915 or HMAT Wandilla on 9 November 1915. He was killed in action on 20 July 1916 in France. Two of his cousins also served with the AIF, they were 576 Corporal Joseph Thomas Redfern, 24th Battalion, who died of disease on 13 October 1915, and Pte Walter Redfern, who was killed in action.
