Description
Studio portrait of 4907 Corporal (Cpl) Fred Harold Dowell, 5th Heavy Mortar Trench Battery. Cpl Dowell first enlisted on 3 February 1915 (4007), 2nd Reinforcements, 2nd Field Artillery Brigade. He embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Hessen on 2 February 1915. He was promoted to Sergeant (Sg) on 20 May 1916. He received a gun shot wound to the left shoulder in France on 6 November 1916. Sgt Dowell returned to Australia on 31 January 1918.
