Studio portrait of 1716 Private (Pte) James Black, 4th Reinforcements, 2nd Battalion, of Surrey Hills, NSW. Pte Black enlisted on 18 January 1915 and embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Argylleshire on 10 April 1915. He was killed in action on 6 August 1915, aged 34, and is buried at Gallipoli 7, Lone Pine Cemetery.
