Studio portrait of 5752 Private (Pte) Hugh (Paddy) O'Brien, 18th Reinforcements, 1st Battalion, of Tumbarumba, NSW, dressed in a hospital issue uniform and resting on crutches at the 1st Auxiliary Hospital, Weymouth, England. Pte O'Brien enlisted on 11 September 1915, aged 18 years, and embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Kyarra on 3 May 1916. He returned to Australia as a corporal on 22 February 1917. On the back of this photograph is a personal message which reads, 'Best love from what's left of Paddy - not broken but badly bent'.
