Studio portrait of 637 Private (Pte) Garnet David Victor Jones, F Company, 2nd Battalion, of Walcha, NSW. Prior to enlisted in the AIF on 26 August 1914, he served with the 14th Infantry, Citizens Military Forces. Pte Jones embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Suffolk on 18 October 1914 and was killed in action 2 May 1915, Quinn’s Post on the Gallipoli Peninsula, aged 20 years. He is memorialised at Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli Peninsula. This lantern slide is one of a series of images of soldiers from the district who enlisted and served overseas. The slides were probably displayed at the Tamworth Cinema between features. Some of the slides have been annotated with information about the person pictured.
