Description
Studio portrait of 52 Lance Corporal (L Cpl) Charles Norman Callcott, A Company, 33rd Battalion, of Tamworth, NSW. LCpl Callcott enlisted on 21 February 1916 and embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Marathon on 4 May 1916. He was killed in action at Villers-Bretonneux on 8 August 1918, aged 20 years. He is buried at France 1170 Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery, Fouilloy. This lantern slide is one of a series of images of soldiers from the district who enlisted and served overseas. The slides were probably displayed at the Tamworth Cinema between features. Some of the slides have been annotated with information about the person pictured.
