Description

Studio portrait of 2232 Private (Pte) Cyril William Brooks, 4th Reinforcements, 17th Battalion, of Tamworth, NSW, aged 21 years. Prior to his enlistment on 18 July 1915 in the AIF, he served with the 13th Infantry, Citizens Military Forces. Pte Brooks embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Argyllshire on 30 September 1915. He died of wounds on 17 August 1916 and is buried at France 102 Bologne Eastern Cemetery. His brother, 4596 Pte George Victor Brooks, 3rd Battalion, also died of wounds on 7 May 1917. This lantern slide is one of a series of images of soldiers from the district who enlisted and served overseas. The slides were probably displayed at the Tamworth Cinema between features. Some of the slides have been annotated with information about the person pictured. See P04231.005.
