Description
Studio portrait of 4596 Private (Pte) George Victor Brooks, 14th Reinforcements, 3rd Battalion, of Tamworth, NSW. Pte Brooks enlisted on 29 August 1915 and embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Osterley on 15 January 1916. He died of wounds on 7 May 1917, aged 21 years and is buried in France at 512 Grevillers British Cemetery. His brother, 2232 Pte Cyril William Brooks, also died of wounds on 17 August 1916. This lantern slide is one of a series of images of soldiers from the district who enlisted and served overseas. The slides were probably displayed at the Tamworth Cinema between features. Some of the slides have been annotated with information about the person pictured. See P04231.004.
