Description
Studio portrait of 3863 Private (Pte) Ernest Cecil Hojel, 9th Reinforcements, 18th Battalion, of Tamworth, NSW. Prior to enlisting in the AIF on 7 October 1915, he served with the 13th Battalion, Citizens Military Forces. Pte Hojel embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Runic on 20 January 1916. He was killed in action on 2 August 1916 at Voisjiers, aged 22 years. He is buried at 26 Villers-Bretonneux, France. This lantern slide is one of a series of images of soldiers from the district who enlisted and served overseas. The slides were probably displayed at the Tamworth Cinema between features. Some of the slides have been annotated with information about the person pictured.
