Description
Studio portrait of 4137 Private (Pte) Sydney Hellyer, 10th Reinforcements, 19th Battalion, of Tamworth, NSW. Prior to enlisting in the AIF on 28 October 1915, he served with the 13th Australian Army Service Corps, Citizens Military Forces. Pte Hellyer embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Orsova on 11 March 1916. He was killed in action on 14 November 1916. He has no known grave and is memorialised at Villers-Bretonneux, France. This lantern slide is one of a series of images of soldiers from the district who enlisted and served overseas. The slides were probably displayed at the Tamworth Cinema between features. Some of the slides have been annotated with information about the person pictured.
