AUSCDT3 completed the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) of a 160 kilometre square area of potential minefield on the Al Faw peninsula over a period of ten days. Located on the peninsula were many key oil installations and the port city of Um Qasr. During Operation Falconer, AUSCDT3 conducted mine clearance operations, that consisted of shallow water Mine Counter Measures (MCM) and Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) in the Khawr Abd Allah waterway, Um Qasr, Al Faw peninsula and later the Khawr az Zubayr waterway. AUSCDT3 operated in the Middle East as part of the Australian Defence Force's commitment to the coalition forces assembled to enforce Iraq's compliance with its international obligations to disarm.
