Description

An Australian Light Armoured Vehicle (ASLAV) from the 2nd Cavalry Regiment patrols the street where the former Australian Embassy residence is located. In the background two Iraqi women wait at a bus stop. The 2nd Cavalry Regiment forms part of the Australian Security Detachment (SECDET) and are responsible for providing protection to Australian Diplomats and Australian Defence Force personnel during the reconstruction period in Iraq. The 2nd Cavalry Regiment operated in the Middle East as part of the Australian Defence Force's commitment to the coalition forces assembled to enforce Iraq's compliance with its international obligations to disarm.
