Description

A view of Baghdad at night, as seen from the deposed Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's Presidential Palace North. The photographer has taken the image through a pair of Night Vision Goggles (NVGs) as used by Australian Defence Force personnel. The NVGs work by amplifying ambient light, which is invisible to the human eye, allowing troops to conduct operations at night time. The palace compound was the location for the Australian National Headquarters (ASNHQ).
