Lance Corporal (L Cpl) Jason Nuske of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, mans a 50 calibre machine gun of an Australian Light Armoured Vehicle (ASLAV), while on patrol through the streets of Baghdad. The 2nd Cavalry Regiment formed part of the Australian Security Detachment (SECDET) responsible for providing protection to Australian Diplomats and members of the Australian Defence Force during the reconstruction phase in Iraq. The 2nd Cavalry Regiment operated in the Middle East as part of the Australian Defence Force's commitment to the coalition forces assembled to enforce Iraq's compliance with its international obligations to disarm.
