Description

Two Iraqi men walk past the former Australian Embassy residence in Baghdad. The men are carrying their masbaha (Islamic prayer beads or worry beads). The crew of an Australian Light Armoured Vehicle (ASLAV) from the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, are assembled out the front of the compound. Other Australian Defence Force personnel, possibly from the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (2RAR), are on piquet duty outside the residence. During Operation Falconer the 2nd Cavalry Regiment and 2RAR formed part of the Australian Security Detachment (SECDET) responsible for providing protection to Australian Diplomats in Iraq and operated in the Middle East as part of the Australian Defence Force's commitment to the coalition forces assembled to enforce Iraq's compliance with its international obligations to disarm.
