Description

Members of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment take a break on the steps of the new Australian Embassy in Baghdad. In the background, a member of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) speaks with Lieutenant (Lt) Justin Back, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, (seated, partially obscured). The 2nd Cavalry Regiment forms part of the Australian Security Detachment (SECDET). SECDET is responsible for providing protection to Australian Diplomats and Australian Defence Force personnel during the reconstruction period in Iraq. The 2nd Cavalry Regiment operates in the Middle East as part of the Australian Defence Force's commitment to the coalition forces assembled to enforce Iraq's compliance with its international obligations to disarm.
