Informal portrait of Brigadier Maurie McNarn Australian National Commander Middle East area of operations, outside the Presidential Palace North. The palace was previously used by deposed Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and became the temporary home of the Australian National Headquarters Baghdad (ASNHQ) during Operation Falconer. In the background are Australian Defence Force personnel, probably from the Australian Security Detachment (SECDET) responsible for providing protection to Australian Diplomats in Iraq.
