Description
Members of the RAAF Airfield Defence Guard (ADG) detachment, Sergeant (Sgt) Charlie Kearnan (foreground) and Leading Aircraftman (LAC) Darren Hoare on patrol at Baghdad International Airport. Foot patrols are undertaken through the Australian section of the airport, ensuring that ADG members have a detailed knowledge of the area and are alert to any possible threats to the Australian detachment. The ADG provides protection to the RAAF air traffic controllers and support staff operating at Baghdad International Airport, and forms part of the RAAF Combat Support Unit operating in the Middle East. The Airfield Defence Guard detachment operated in the Middle East as part of the Australian commitment assembled to disarm Iraq.
