Description

Leading Aircraftman (LAC) Darren Hoare (foreground) and Sergeant (Sgt) Charlie Kearnan, RAAF Airfield Defence Guard (ADG), patrol a major road through the Australian section of Baghdad International Airport. Foot patrols were undertaken by members of the ADG to ensure a detailed knowledge of the area and to identify any possible threats to the Australian element. The main role of the ADG is provide protection to the RAAF air traffic controllers and support staff operating at Baghdad International Airport. The detachment forms part of the RAAF Combat Support Unit operating in the Middle East. The Airfield Defence Guard detachment operated in the Middle East as part of the Australian commitment assembled to disarm Iraq.
