Exposition de tableaux de maitres modernes [Exhibition of paintings by modern masters]
Description
Depticted behind a barbed wire fence of a German prison camp, a French soldier sketches as he watches the German guards supervising other prisoners unloading packages, presumably of clothing.
This poster was produced to advertise an exhibition of paintings by modern masters, the funds produced from the exhibition were used to provide clothing for prisoners of war. The exhibition was held at the Galerie Georges Bernheim, 40 rue de la Boetie, Paris from 14 February to 14 March 1916. The gallery was open everyday from 10am to 6pm, closed Sunday and public holidays.
