Description
An F/A-18 Hornet pilot from 75 Squadron RAAF at Al Udeid airbase. The Squadron had returned from its last combat mission over the Middle East Area of Operations. Present are Wing Commander Melvin E G Hupfeld (far right), Wing Commander Peter Speiss, Squadron Leader Eldridge, Flying Officer (FO) Sander, Group Captain William (Billy) Henman, FO Anthony D'Alessandro and Flight Lieutenant Derek Thresher. 75 Squadron operated in the Middle East as part of Operation Falconer, with their initial role being to provided protection to Coalition aircraft including air to air refuelers and intelligence aircraft. Their role was later extended to include to strike missions against a variety of military targets. 75 Squadron operated in the Middle East as part of the Australian commitment to the Coalition forces assembled to disarm Iraq.
