Description

An Australian Light Armoured Vehicle (ASLAV) is unloaded from a Russian Antonov 124 aircraft after arriving at Camp Snoopy, a United States military base located at Qatar International airport. The ASLAVs are used by personnel from the 2nd Calvary Regiment, and will be deployed in Baghdad to form part of the Australian Security Detachment (SECDET). SECDET is responsible for providing protection to Australian Australian Defence Force personnel during the reconstruction period in Iraq. The 2nd Cavalry Regiment operated in the Middle East as part of the Australian Defence Force's commitment to the coalition forces assembled to enforce Iraq's compliance with its international obligations to disarm.
