Description

A United States Air Force Black Hawk helicopter circles the air traffic control tower at Baghdad International Airport. The control tower is manned by an RAAF Air Traffic Control detachment, and is part of the RAAF Combat Support Unit operating in the Middle East. The Air Traffic Control element was deployed to provide support services for airfield operations, and forms part of the RAAF Combat Support Unit operating in the Middle East. A team of thirteen RAAF air traffic controllers monitors over 500 aircraft movements per day. The Air Traffic Control detachment operated in the Middle East as part of the Australian commitment assembled to disarm Iraq.
