Description
Members of the RAAF Air Traffic Control detachment, Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) Pete Hartley (left), Flying Officer (FO) Andrew Chapman (centre), and Squadron Leader (Sqn Ldr) Steve Edgeley (right), monitor Coalition aircraft from the control tower at Baghdad International Airport. The Air Traffic Control element was deployed to provide support services for airfield operations, and forms part of the RAAF Combat Support Unit operating in the Middle East. A team of thirteen RAAF air traffic controllers monitors over 500 aircraft movements per day. The Air Traffic Control detachment operated in the Middle East as part of the Australian commitment assembled to disarm Iraq.
