Description

Lieutenant (Lt) Justin Back, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, on patrol through the streets of Baghdad in an Australian Light Armoured Vehicle (ASLAV). The 2nd Cavalry Battalion was deployed to Iraq as part of the Australian Security Detachment (SECDET). The role of SECDET is to provide security protection to Australian diplomats and Defence Force personnel serving during the reconstruction phase in Iraq. The 2nd Cavalry Regiment operated in the Middle East as part of the Australian Defence Force's commitment to the coalition forces assembled to enforce Iraq's compliance with its international obligations to disarm.
