Description

Lieutenant (Lt) Justin Back, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, uses radio equipment to communicate from inside an Australian Light Armoured Vehicle (ASLAV) whilst on patrol in the streets of Baghdad . The 2nd Cavalry Regiment formed part of the Australian Security Detachment (SECDET) responsible for providing protection to Australian Diplomats in Iraq. The 2nd Cavalry Regiment operated in the Middle East as part of the Australian Defence Force's commitment to the coalition forces assembled to enforce Iraq's compliance with its international obligations to disarm.
