Description

An Australian Light Armoured Vehicle (ASLAV) crewed by members of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment observe an area of Baghdad near the former Australian Embassy residence. The 2nd Cavalry Regiment formed part of the Australian Security Detachment (SECDET) that played a key role in ensuring the protection of Australian diplomats and members of the Australian Defence Force during the reconstruction phase in Iraq. The 2nd Cavalry Regiment operated in the Middle East as part of the Australian Defence Force's commitment to the coalition forces assembled to enforce Iraq's compliance with its international obligations to disarm.
