Orphelinat des Armees
Poster depicting women and children mourning amongst lilies and battlefield crosses. The poster advertised the benefits provided to war orphans by the French Army Orphanage. The French text on the poster reads; 'Army Orphanage/ guarantees to little orphans:/ home and family and motherly love./ Education about their country. An appropriate career for each child./ The religion of their fathers.'. This is one of two posters produced for an American charity for a French flag day in aid of the French Army Orphanage, Paris. Frank Brangwyn (1867-1956) was not an official war artist, although he produced over 80 poster designs during the first World War. A large proportion of Brangwyn's work during this period was given free of charge to charitable groups, for example the Red Cross, National Institute for the Blind, and Belgian and Allied Aid League. Brangwyn also designed six recruiting posters for the 'Daily Chronicle'.
