Description
Studio portrait of 1697 Private (Pte) David Donaldson, 11th Reinforcements, 1st Divisional Signal Company, of Oxedale, Vic. Pte Donaldson enlisted on 17 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ulysses on 27 October 1915. He was awarded the Military Medal (MM) on 14 October 1917 for: 'considerable bravery in persistently patrolling and mending telephone lines between Hooge and Clapham Junction'. On 11 March 1918 he was wounded in action (gassed). Pte Donaldson was promoted to lance corporal on 26 October 1918 and returned to Australia on 12 April 1919.
