Description

'Bush war' is one in a series of four works by Gallegos outlining of the continent of Australia upon which media images of September 11 and its aftermath are printed. This work depicts a fragment of a front page newspaper image of President Bush standing in front of an American flag, flanked by the columns of the Capitol. Above President Bush is the inscription 'In God We Trust'. The words 'I will not yield', 'Anger to resolution', 'Justice will be done' and 'Be ready' are superimposed on the image, and echo newspaper headlines and media sound bites from political speeches. All four works depict the 'news of the day' as blanketing the continent, alluding to the power and influence of media ideas and images. The work challenges the viewer to examine their responses to September 11 and the subsequent involvement of Australian troops in the recent conflict in Iraq.
