American flag in Australian map

'American flag in Australian map' shows the continent of Australia covered in stars and stripes from the American flag. The map is covered with fine rows of hand stitching. This work is one in a series of four works by Gallegos outlining of the continent of Australia upon which images related to September 11 and its aftermath are printed. Gallegos' works show Australia as a land dominated by world events and the politics of other countries. The work challenges the viewer to examine their responses to September 11 and the subsequent involvement of Australian troops in the recent conflict in Iraq.
