Medical air evacuation; Maintenance of Dakota; verso: R &R Seoul City Dakota
Sixtieth page of artist's sketchbook with two drawings. The upper drawing, 'Medical air evacuation' depicts a large group of figures lifting a figure on a stretcher into the side of an aircraft. The lower drawing, 'Maintenance of Dakota ' depicts several figures climbing on or under a Dakota plane, sitting on a runway. Douglas DC-3 aircraft, the 'Dakota' were developed in 1935. The RAAF 36 Transport Squadron in Korea flew Dakota aircraft. The upper image of 'Medical air evacuation' relates to the the RAAF 30 Transport Squadron in Korea. This unit was involved in supporting the British Commonwealth Occupation Forces in Korea. The 30 Squadron daily departed from Iwakuni in Japan for Korea during 1950- 1952 and later became the 36 Squadron. Verso: contains one drawing. 'R & R Seoul City Dakota' depicts a large group of figures standing next to a Dakota aircraft and emerging from the doorway on the plane onto the runway.
