Description
Studio portrait of 183220 Lieutenant (later Captain) Robert Henry Cuthbert of 19 Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps, served in Singapore until 15 February 1942. During the Surrender of Singapore he was hospitalised with a head wound. On recovery, Cuthbert was sent to Changi Prisoner of War (POW) Camp. From March 1942 through to April 1945, he moved between camps, and as a Medical Officer was able to operate on and medically assist many other POWs, including a number of Australians. Cuthbert was repatriated to the UK on HMT Orduna in September 1945, and later settled in Tasmania.
